What We Build

One team designs the deck, engineers the structure, pulls the permit and builds it.

Composite Decks

Trex, TimberTech and capped-composite decking with hidden fasteners, picture-frame borders and fascia detailing. No sanding, no annual staining.

Hardwood Decks

Ipe, cumaru, redwood and cedar decking for homeowners who want real wood grain, detailed with stainless hardware and proper ventilation.

Hillside & Elevated Decks

Engineered post-and-beam framing, drilled caissons and moment connections for canyon and hillside lots across the Santa Monica Mountains and Palos Verdes.

Pool Decks

Deck systems that meet the pool at grade — composite over sleepers, or a deck-to-paver transition that keeps the whole yard on one clean plane.

Cable & Glass Railings

Stainless cable rail and frameless or channel-set glass railing for view lots, engineered so the railing never becomes the thing you look at.

Aluminum & Steel Railings

Powder-coated aluminum and welded steel guardrails, horizontal picket systems and custom handrails fabricated to match the architecture.

Choosing Your Decking Material

Capped Composite

Best for: low maintenance, pool decks, families

Fade and stain warrantied, no sealing, stays stable in LA heat. Runs hotter underfoot than wood in full afternoon sun — we spec lighter colors on west-facing yards.

Hardwood (Ipe / Cumaru)

Best for: warm natural grain, modern architecture

Dense, fire-resistive and long-lived, but needs oiling every year or two to hold its color. Requires pre-drilled stainless fastening.

Cedar / Redwood

Best for: traditional homes, budget-conscious builds

Softer and lighter, easy to work and stain. Shorter service life than composite or ipe in full-sun exposures.

Aluminum Substructure

Best for: hillside, fire-zone and rooftop decks

Non-combustible framing that will not rot, twist or feed a wildfire. Often required or strongly advised in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.

Code, Permits & Site Conditions

  • Guardrails are required on any walking surface more than 30 inches above grade, at 42 inches high with a 4-inch sphere rule on infill spacing.
  • Cable railing needs closely spaced intermediate posts and correct tensioning to pass the infill test — most failures we're called to fix are under-posted cable runs.
  • Hillside decks in LA City and County typically require structural engineering, a soils report and a grading review before plan check.
  • Decks in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones fall under Chapter 7A — ignition-resistant decking and non-combustible framing or enclosure details.
  • Coastal builds in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Malibu need 316 stainless hardware; standard galvanized fails fast in salt air.
  • Pool-adjacent decks must maintain the required barrier and cannot create a climbable surface over a pool fence.

How the Build Runs

1

Site visit & measure

We walk the yard, check grade, drainage and existing framing, and confirm what the lot will actually support.

2

Design & engineering

3D layout, material selection, railing system, and structural engineering where the deck height or slope requires it.

3

Permits & plan check

We prepare and submit the drawings and manage plan check and inspections with your city or county.

4

Build

Our own crews frame, deck and set railing — no brokered subs, exact material quantities, and a clean site daily.

5

Walkthrough & warranty

Final inspection, punch list, and your extended Moda warranty on top of the manufacturer coverage.
